Its said that Venus in a house represents a ‘relationship’ with the themes governing that house in particular. When you pair Venus with the 2^nd house, you have a very interesting combination. In le ancient greek myth, Venus is said to be ruled by Aphrodite and frolics over the 2^nd and 7^th houses because they represent love, art and material possessions. In the 2^nd house, thats exactly the case.

Venus in the 2^nd house people LOVE their material goods. They might even find that they get more of a pulse out of accumulating useless deals through a Black Friday sale than a cheery romantic comedy. Venus is in one of its homes here, so there’s a love affair with wealth. They might be hoarders, shopaholics or classic ‘defensive eaters’ because they believe that everything they want should naturally be theirs..by any means necessary.

The advantage to this placement might give someone the leverage to be very successful financially. This is the house of Taurus and Taurus believes in all things security. These are the people that have the best life insurance lying perpendicular to their bank account balances. To them, there’s a ‘comfort’ and security in having “things.” In extreme cases, its luxury. In more mild cases, its a safety net. They’re also this way with friends. You won’t catch a Venus in the 2^nd with a risky best friend or even acquaintance. They have a tendency to look down on people who constantly get themselves into a jam because they just can’t fathom ever having it themselves. They’d rather be safe than sorry and there’s a sort of modern wisdom behind this way of thinking.

If you have Venus in the 2^nd House, consider accounting, real estate or anything that directly associates you to money because you’ll have a natural affinity for it..and in THIS day and age, its recommended we all befriend someone like this. Ironically, these people will also keep Bravo spendthrift reality shows and financial consultants in business.

Why butterflies you ask? I’ve done a bit of reading on this one, and its said that Venus in the 1^st house represents a “social butterfly” of sorts. Since Venus = Relationships and the 1^st house represents the self, Venus in 1^st house means “Your relationship with others and yourself.” They’re social butterflies because their lives exist around the connections with others they create.

This placement has two sides. On one hand, you have someone who supposedly has a very well crafted sense of self. They’re individualistic and can distinctly carve out their opinions and their beliefs from those of everyone else. On the flip side, all of those beliefs, opinions and HOW this person is crafted dependently rely on their relationships WITH other people. Get the link?

According to Venus in the 1^st house, they build their self image by sometimes over prioritizing relationships in their lives. Its as if they can’t-exist-without them. Even though some astrologers and amateur star gazers associate this position to Libra because they say that Venus in the 1^st gives this person a love of beauty, charm and finesse, we think that that’s just hitting the surface.

For our next special segment, we’re going to talk about Venus in the houses. If you do your natal chart on cafeastrology, astro.com or any other site that allows you to see your houses because you’ve provided your birth time, something very special happens when your natal Venus falls into a house.

Starting now into the next week, we’re going to dedicate ourselves to those that have this alignment. Doesn’t mean that there’s anything ‘extra’ about them. When a natal planet (say mars or uranus) falls into one of your houses, it means that THAT particular area of your life is going to have a little extra moan and “oompf!” For example, there are some people out there that have multiple planets in one house and others that have them scattered. Someone that has Neptune falling into their 12^th, 8^th and 7^th houses might be someone that tends to lose themselves and forget the world around them in their relationships socially and romantically and feel as if they have some spiritual attachment to them. When a planet falls into a house, it makes that area in your life MUCH more emphasized and it creates a pattern of events that circulate around them.

If you don’t have Venus in any of your houses, it doesn’t mean that you’re less lovable, unsexy or anything negative. It means that another area of your chart is going to have a little more emphasis. For instance, maybe you have multiple planets like your Sun, Moon and Mars in Capricorn and they fall into your 2^nd, 4^th and 10^th houses? THAT means that love is totally secondary to you and you’re going to be the next Donald Trump with how much fucking money you might make because you value discipline over playtime. See? There is NOTHING to be ashamed of!

Well, not literally..thank god. In the traditional sense and for the sake of political correctness, the 7th house is known as the marriage house because its ruled by Libra and Libra governs everything legal and social relationships. If you combine them, you basically get the structure of marriage. The outer shell, the exoskeleton. Like Libra, its everything dealing with appearances. 

“Structure” is the word we’re honing in on. Your 7th house out of the 12 you have represents the structure that you prefer to have in relationships. Whether its a power play or a relationship where you’re the damsel in distress, the 7th governs the dynamic that you prefer. When you want to have an idea about what you’re like in love, you look at your Venus, Mars and your 7th and 8th houses to start out with. Lets look at some examples of how this works -

1. Nurturing, loving, caring and is a general mother figure

7th house water signs think that marriage is as good as an oath written in blood. While 7th house pisceans look for more of a prince or princess figure in a mate, 7th house cancernarians will either look after their mates and portray a male-cancer or want a partner who protects THEM and portrays a female cancer.

• Say a guy has a 7th House Pisces. In order to understand the relationship structure he prefers, you merge it with the Pisces archetype. Meaning that in a partner, they want someone who - 

1. Might need “saving” and they’re drawn to people that are self destructive or helpless
2. Might be an artist or someone who’s very creative, dreamy and has that type of beauty where they’re so beautiful that everyone knows it EXCEPT for themselves
3. Might value relationships as a “be-all-end-all” - someone that thinks that love should last forever, no matter what

At the same time, you also combine what Pisces typically values in relationships. Think of the 7th house as the pseudo version of a venus sign. So a 7th house pisces would be a bit similar to a venus in pisces. Relationship wise, this person may have a tendency to be more traditional and might hold off on love until they’ve found the one they’ve dreamed of. 

After your extensive 3 day wait, we give you the much awaited Venus Aspect Pluto -

Overview – For the diehard astro fans out there, Pluto is said to be ruled by Hades himself. Pluto rules mirth, obsession, suppressed rage and a secret underlying need for control. At its best, it represents transformation, regeneration and breathes new life when you’re on verge of collapsing. Its the direct passageway into the astral realm next to pisces. In love, Pluto doesn’t believe in second best or fly by romances. To Pluto, in exchange for their heart – you belong to them forever.

Sextiles, Trines and some Conjunctions of this aspect give someone an incredible sense of intuition. These people often have a ferociously prominent sex drive and will navigate between two extremes – Either they’ll exhaust their bodies by using sex as a method of ‘exercise’ because they subconsciously equate sex to spiritual transformation or they’ll radiate that sexuality, but will hold out for the ones they deem worthy of their time.

+ These people are ridiculously passionate and in love, they’d willingly die for the people that they care for. Pluto, like Neptune represents a tendency towards obsession because everything it believes must be absolute. There’s no half assing anything or attempting to manipulate the environment around these people. Their senses are very fine tuned and they tend to pick on on details and subtle nuances that others could have never imagined. Consider it a gift from Scorpio. 

Squares and Oppositions leave someone in a position of diplomacy. Since Scorpio used to co-rule Mars alongside Ares, the tendencies towards rage and a need for control become highlighted with this aspect. People with these particular aspects have a need to control their partner or they require that there’s a constant struggle for power. To Scorpios in general, its rare that they can function in relationships unless there’s some sort of hot, underlying tension seeping beneath the surface. In love, those with this aspect will either find a partner who they can dominate or someone that they give the impression they’re being dominated by, but pull the strings in secret.

+ This aspect at its best gives someone the natural ability to be so passionate that everything they touch sort of ‘gleams’ with their signature. These are the people that walk around having a sense of magnetism that you can see from a mile away. But at the same time, you can’t help but feel uncomfortable around them because they take the conflict within themselves and transfer it to the world at large by accident. At its worst, you also might be dealing with a self destructive asshole who believes that destroying everything around them will help them alleviate the pain in their hearts.

Quick Overview - Neptune is ruled by (I almost said Triton, god help us all) - Poseidon in greek myth and represents the ebb and flow of the gentleness and sincerity of humanity and the heavy tide of delusions that drown mankind with its obsessions. Neptunian people often have a dream like quality to them. You never know what they’re really thinking and you can never pinpoint why you feel like you’re stranded on a distant planet when they’re nearby. People with Neptunian placements have a tendency to give the world the best example of what happens when you dedicate your life to something that only you can see. 

Happier Venus-Neptune aspects are going to give someone the tendency to delve into spirituality or have an interest ..or obsession with what the naked eye can’t see. They’re curious kittens and will never take anything at face value. They’re enthralled by what’s lurking under the surface and make very sensitive people and lovers that are fascinated by fairy tale like endings and dynamics. They make women that wait for their princes or princess charmings and men that willingly throw themselves into the depths of love affair after love affair to find their ‘soul mate.’ These are the ones that often make 100 point lists about what their ‘ideal lover’ would be like. At their highest however, when they’re not drenched in their own emotions, they have this uncanny ability to see the best in people when others see only murk and darkness. 

At their worst with challenging aspects, please..DO beware. People with Venus-Neptune oppositions and squares are often quite deluded in love. They’re easily mislead and often represent poor and innocent lambs accidentally being dragged to a slaughter. Their hyper sensitivity gets the best of them and sometimes they have a tendency to choose lovers that are as self destructive as themselves. Like mermaids that wake up one day thinking that they’re saints, they go for “troubled” partners and pathological liars that they think that they can magically save with the force of true love. They’re also ridiculously down about themselves because they feel alone in comparison to everyone else because they create this reality where they willingly make themselves into the black sheep, or they ARE the black sheep because its hard for most people to relate to them. These people often need a good friend to drag them out of their habits because if you leave them on their own, they’ll be one step away from destroying themselves because if they’re not falling in love to escape reality, they’ll be creating a reality out of another kind of addiction.

Quick Overview : Welcome to the Aquarian side of the zodiac! As some of us know, each planet is ruled by one or two astrological rulers because they serve as a metaphor for certain lessons in life. For Uranus, this planet is ruled by Aquarius and Aquarius in western astrology is the home of creativity. At their highest, these people are a step away from pisces and prefer to see the greater good of humanity and how every one and and living thing is ultimately connected. People with Uranian aspects are like Luna Lovegood’s daddy or The Dr. in modern form. They’re the inventors, scientists, artists with otherwordly inspired ideas for their work. Yet at the same time, at their worst, they’re the ones that say —- “Why are you trying to get so close to me?”

In love, happy Venus-Uranus aspects such as trines and sextiles give people the advantage of valuing autonomy in relationships. Sometimes they value it so much that they’re bouncing from continent to continent with a different lover in every city. They don’t like to feel tied down or smothered and they loathe traditional dynamics in relationships. Where’s the polyamory? Where’s the swinger’s club? Where’s that kinky little crevice in the forest where we can have orgies under the glowing moonlight? They also tend to value switches in gender roles in who leads the relationship. These people tend to attract lovers who have an other wordly presence about them and who probably aren’t fully accepted by the general public. Venus-Uranus people are the epitome of Amanda Palmer’s and Neil Gaiman’s relationship - It strikes most as very oddballish and unpredictable, but to them its home. 

Challenging Venus-Uranus aspects unfortunately drive people to a bit of madness because instead of seeking a healthy sense of autonomy, these people fear RELATIONSHIPS in general. Some of them will up and leave a potential romantic connection in the middle of the night if they fear that it’ll make them “settle down.” They become flighty, unstable and have trouble deciding if they want a lover or someone exactly like themselves. At their worst, it makes someone associate intimacy with a conventional relationship and sends them packing right as someone THINKS that they’ve got them interested in them. There’s a tendency to want to sabotage relationships as soon as an emotional connection becomes established in this sense. 

I’ve been wanting to cover these outer planets for a very long time because I feel as if love REALLY hits those hardest that are afflicted by it. What’s ironic about it is that the inner planets represent more of the SELF in romantic relationships, whereas the outer planets represent more of the OTHER in relationships. Lets explore these together. 

A Quick Overview - In astrology, Saturn is ruled by the greek god “Cronus,” representing time. To those afflicted by Saturnian placements, the concept of time is horrifyingly accurate to them. Saturn means, “all in good time,” after all. For some, the concept of time represents “suffering.” For others, its a little less deadly and can be interpreted as maturation, duty and gobbling up responsibility because Saturn is the authoritarian daddy of the zodiac.  

For those with happy trines, sextiles and occasionally some non malefic conjunctions, Saturn in aspect to Venus gives someone the belief that they have to take on an astonishingly large amount of responsibility in their relationships. They’re very steadfast, headstrong and loyal people who believe that life will do you good if you put your nose to the grindstone and earn life’s riches yourself. In the romantic sense, you’re usually going to have people who might end up blooming later in life. While everyone’s out dating their closest friends and having random sexual Craigslist encounters, they’re the ones who seem to be forever-single calling them in the middle of the night for emotional support.

These people shine when they’re sacrificing themselves to those they love. In a very masochistic sense, they think that nothing good exists unless you have to suffer in order to get it or to maintain it. If you combine this sort of thinking to modern times, you have people who serve as the backbone to relationships with ill suited partners that they keep around because they  have this idea that they have a responsibility to look after them. 

For those with oppositions, squares and placements less happy and sing song, you have people that turn the conflict that they endure with resilience and turn it onto themselves. These people have a tendency to be very self loathing and hyper self critical. They make themselves set impossible standards and think that they have a “responsibility” to uphold them. In this relationship with themselves, they’re both the slave AND the slave master or authoritarian figure. There’s usually a large block in between them and their vulnerable emotional natures. The thing is with Saturn is that its a zero-tolerance zone for anything sensitive or moon related. So as a result, these challenging aspects make people FEAR vulnerability in any sense. So while they’re craving love, they simultaneously believe that they are completely unworthy of it. 

Beware of the baby-makers and condom dispenser raiders of the zodiac - These people have got serious game or simultaneously have some of the most addicting “love and lost” stories next to Venus in aspect to Neptune. 

Venus-Mars aspects represents aphrodite making love to the god of war himself. It combines the throws of passion with an appetite for love and forget-me-nots. People with Venus-Mars sextiles and trines are those who are constantly asking their partners for seconds and thirds on the bedroom floor and in the kitchen before the folks get home. They’re the people that wonder if there’s going to be sex on the first date and probably have a phone or an OKCupid account full of waiting potentials incase that date was a total dud. They’re the alpha, beta and gamma males and females who probably have a better idea about the art of sex appeal than half of the population. 

At their worst, challenging aspects (squares, conjunctions and oppositions) create people that are so addicted to love that they often confuse it with a gratifying sexual release. These are the people that are roaming into their late 20s, 30s and 40s still swinging into the singles scene while their friends wonder why they can’t get into long, term relationship. They usually claim that its hard to find someone who can keep up with them sexually, but its usually a charade to hide their fears of intimacy.

They probably have 4 or 5 separate accounts for that. 

Positive Venus - Mercury aspects (sextiles, conjunctions and trines) give people the leverage to have an endless web of different friends. They’re usually social butterflies or moths. While they’re great at being personable because people often feel as if they can “tell them anything,” they run the risk of appearing two faced because they’re able to mirror other people’s opinions because they’d rather agree than cause conflict. 

Challenging Venus - Mercury aspects (squares and oppositions) often cause people to have trouble communicating their feelings to their lovers. There’s usually a thick cement block between their head and their heart and its easier for them to talk about love than to actually realize that they have the potential to feel such a thing. In relationships they’re prone to accidentally sending mixed signals because they have trouble telling their lovers what they actually want.
